Milwaukee Bucks set to lose Giannis Antetokounmpo to Lakers
Antetokounmpo recently stated that the City of Stars is not for him due to its astronomical living prices, 2025 may look a lot different. Giannis can opt out of his Milwaukee Buckscontract after the 2024-25 NBAseason, making Los Angeles a possible destination should he leave Wisconsin.
The Purple & Gold have made various moves in recent years to try and lure the Greek Freak to LA. In 2018, the franchise hired Jason Kidd as an assistant coach after spending nearly four seasons as Milwaukee’s head coach.
One year later, the Lakers signed Kostas Antetokounmpo, Giannis’ younger brother, who won the NBA title in the bubble alongsde LeBron James despite getting little-to-no playing time. Giannis would become the second champion of his family the following season with his other brother Thanasis.

despite all of the Lakers’ efforts to land the Greek Freak, the 27-year-old signed afive-year, $228 million max extension with the Bucks, including an opt-out after the fourth year — the biggest deal in NBA history. Now that Ham is in Los Angeles for the next four years, Giannis could possibly leave Milwaukee in 2025 to reunite with his former coach.

“I’m so happy for him. He’s the right fit for them. He keeps it real with you. No BS at all. It’s about damn time. He deserves it more than anyone,” Giannis said of Ham’s hiring in LA.
As much as the Lakers front office gets criticized for its poor trades and signings, they may very well be on to something huge with the Ham hiring.
