After finishing the previous season just outside the top-15, Novak Djokovic was ready to rumble in 2007. The young Serb made his title debut in Adelaide and reached the fourth round at the Australian Open. Novak suffered three breaks against Robby Ginepri in the first match but beat the American 6-4 6-4. The Serb dominated serving and returning to drop just seven games to Evgeny Korolev and Julien Benneteau to reach the round of 16.
In the quarters, Djokovic defeated world number 15 David Ferrer 6-3 6-4 in one hour and 17 minutes, to obtain the best result in the premium level of the ATP, losing 17 points in ten service games. and suffering a break from four chances offered to David.
For his part, Novak added three breaks to have the advantage and enter the semifinals. The Serbian would face his contemporary and good friend Andy Murray in a battle for the final, facing him for the second time on Tour. Nadal had not dropped a set before the title match, suffered just two breaks in six meetings and looked good to win the Australian Open for the first time in ten years. As always, the only problem for the Spaniard lay in the fact that Djokovic was never an ordinary opponent for him, he couldn’t beat him off the clay since the 2013 US Open final!
