As the Aug. 2 deadline is fast approaching, the New York Yankees are looking to solidify a roster that will carry them deep into the postseason.

Kansas City Royals outfielder Andrew Benintendi may be the missing piece, and it looks like the Yankees will do what they can to get him.
MLB insiders Alyson Footer, Jon Morosi and Mark Feinsand discussed the possible acquisition on MLB Network.
From MLB.com, Footer said, “It does not surprise me that they’re interested in Andrew Benintendi, even though he is unvaccinated, given he would give them an effective left-handed bat.”
Morosi agreed that “Benintendi fits the profile of what the Yankees need.”
Feinsand added fuel to the fire, saying AL East teams, including the Yankees, “are still coming strong” for Benintendi.
If the Yankees miss or pass on Benintendi, Morosi said he likes Arizona Diamondbacks’ David Peralta for New York.

Benintendi is an attractive target for the Yankees to replace Joey Gallo, who has disappointed this season.
Benintendi is slashing .322/.390/.401 with 39 RBI. His batting average is the fifth-highest in the majors.
Tuesday night at Citi Field, the New York Mets and New York Yankees will begin the first leg of the 2022 Subway Series. The crosstown rivals will play two games in Queens this week, then two games at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx from Aug. 22-23. Could see we these two teams meet again in October? The Yankees have not yet confirmed their starter for Wednesday night but it is expected to be righty Domingo Germán (0-1, 15.00), who allowed five runs in three innings in his season debut last week.
