Since February, the Golden State Warriors star been outfitted by underrepresented Black fashion designers, making a statement during the “tunnel walk” at arenas around the NBA.
So when he donned a white T-shirt with the words “Ayesha Curry CAN Cook” under his custom Richfresh suit after Monday’s 104-94 Game 5 victory at Chase Center, he probably did not make the choice on a whim.
When a reporter asked him about the shirt during his postgame news conference, Curry suggested he “ask around the room and ask Twitter.”
Before Game 4 in Boston on Friday, NBC Sports Bay Area reporter Dalton Johnson tweeted two photos of a chalkboard sign outside Game On! at Fenway Park: one pitted the opposing stars’ kids against each other, the other said simply, “Ayesha Curry Can’t Cook.”
Before busting out the shirt, Curry had already defended his family’s honor on the court in Game 4 with 43 points, 10 rebounds, and a convincing victory.
Boston fans have tried their best to get under the Warriors’ skin, with profane chants at TD Garden directed at Draymond Green, Klay Thompson and Curry.
Game 6 on Thursday, with the Celtics facing elimination in Boston, figures to be extra spicy.
